Mrs Beeton, My Sister
Award-winning playwright Alison Neil’s play, Bella - The Story of Mrs Beeton, was hugely popular and ran from 1988-2002. It was adapted for BBC Radio 4 as a Saturday Afternoon Play.
Mrs Beeton, My Sister, is an all-new retelling of this entertaining and moving story, using the latest research.
Many years after Isabella Beeton’s untimely death, Bessie Mayson muses on the extraordinary life of her famous big sister. They were the eldest of 21 children, brought up in the Grand Stand at Epsom Race Course. Quiet, obedient Isabella fell for a charming publisher called Sam Beeton, and joined his rackety life in journalism, culminating in her world-famous, Beeton’s Book of Household Management. Her family disapproved. But were they right? Thirty years on, Bessie is not so sure…
One-hour show with no interval.
A Q&A session with Alison Neil will follow the show.
